Running, walking, gardening – it’s all good. Regardless of what you do, regular exercise and physical activity is the path to health and well-being. Exercise burns fat, builds muscle, lowers cholesterol, eases stress and anxiety, and lets us sleep restfully. Physically active people are likely to live several years longer than those who are inactive. Studies have shown that even adding low amounts of leisure time physical activity to one’s daily routine—such as 75 min of walking per week—may increase longevity. However, when we include a mixture of cardio and strength training 3-4 times per week to our routine we can maintain a health weight and reap the maximum benefits of exercise.
